In 1984, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, then UAE Minister of Defence and a member of Dubai’s progressive royal family, asked Sir Maurice Flanagan, then managing director of dnata, to look into starting an airline.
By December that year, a comprehensive business plan was ready, and the name “Emirates” was chosen for the new airline.
In March 1985, Maurice Flanagan was tasked with the ambitious mission to launch an airline in 5 months with $10 million seed funding. He was told that the airline had to “look good, be good, and make money”. There would be no subsidies or aeropolitical protection under Dubai’s open skies policy.

My experience flying with them is always great, whether we’re talking about the experienced well-trained staff or the awesome interior of the plane, in short, you always feel comfortable and safe while flying with them and that’s what matters most.
Flights in business class are simply great, you get a 3-course menu, unlimited drinks and you have the opportunity to buy cosmetics from world brands at a discount.
Whenever I fly to Dubai, I always choose fly with Emirates.

Our flights to São Paulo, Brazil was almost perfect. I bought 7 tickets for my family for my son’s wedding in Brazil. I decided to flew by Emirates airlines after my trip to New York last July. I enjoy the flights, air crews and services of Emirates and plan to continue to promote to our volunteers in our organization.
But when we arrive Bangkok my luggage was broken and they promise take care of it. After several emails they sent to me and back and forth . They are offering THB 1000 for my broken luggage. I paid about $16,000 for my family’s air ticket and simple replace of the luggage that they broke because of the careless of luggage services in Bangkok they can not replace it. I just want alarm the Emirates office in Dubai so their company will not be tainted because careless services of Emirates Baggage Services in Bangkok. I waited and give them opportunity to redeemed what happened, they offered me THB 700, then THB 900 and then maximum of THB 1000, very disappointing.
I was disappointed the way the handled the luggages and the way treat their passengers.They need to train and equip their employees who handles the luggages of the passengers.

Still one of the best airlines across world. Meal and TV is free inside the flight. Flights are always ontime. Staff including air hostesses are generally polite. Planes are great but now some of them are getting old. Business class and first class experience is unique. Lounge access is complementary with Business class and First class tickets.
